Das war eine feine soziologische Betrachtung in Süddeutschen Zeitung über die vierte Version von Grand Theft Auto. Der Held schafft als Mafia-Aufsteiger (Sopranos lassen grüssen) Identifikationsraum zwischen Gut und Böse, ganz abgesehen vom enormen Realismus der Grafikanimation und der Möglichkeit, aus dem Spielstrang auszubrechen. Spiele sind die starke Form dieses Jahrhunderts.

Von 9.-10. November finden die 5. Stuttgarter Medientage statt - das diesjährige Leitmotiv der Medienmesse ist "Digital Lifestyle". Erstmalig finden die Medientage an zwei Tagen statt, mit über 70 Ausstellern und 100 Referenten im Rahmen eines umfangreichen Kongress-Programms. Schwerpunkte sind Themen rund um Marketing, Kommunikation, Media, Games & Entertainment, Architektur & Design und das Sonderthema Broadcast NOW! sowie Aus- und Fortbildung in der Medienwirtschaft. Hubert Burda Media ist Partner der Stuttgarter Medientage und wird gemeinsam mit Burda Digital, Burda Direct und Burda Ciscom an einem eigenen Stand vertreten sein.
Ich werde am morgigen Eröffnungspanel (13.15 Uhr) mit Vertretern aus der Medien- und Filmwirtschaft über den digitalen Medienwandel und die Chancen für Medienhäuser diskutieren. Mit auf dem Panel sind Tim Renner (Motor Entertainment), Eberhard P. Wensauer (Wensauer und Partner Werbeagentur), Andreas Fuchs (T-Mobile Deutschland), Andreas Vill (DaimlerChrysler TV Medien) sowie Thomas Schneider (Stuttgarter Zeitung/Nachrichten online). Ich freue mich, mit Ihnen individuelle Perspektiven auf die Medienlandschaft der Zukunft zu erörtern.
Next week, from 19-21 October, the Monaco Media Forum takes place under the motto "Leadership for the digital revolution" chaired by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco. The Forum seeks to bring together some of the world's top media leaders to talk across the many sectors that make up today's media marketplace, and to share international leadership experiences.
I will be speaking on the panel "Old Dogs, New Tricks" (Saturday 21 Oct) and am already looking forward to exchange thoughts with Jeremy Philips, News Corps Executive VP and Jim Spanfeller, CEO of Forbes.com. Today I read a good feature (“59 Millionen Freunde”) about MySpace which Tobias Moorstedt wrote in the Sueddeutsche Zeitung. Actually, it was an opener of the feuilleton section (page 15). As the leading social networking services (SNS) MySpace has become a cultural phenomena.
Moorstedt quoted Danah Boyd, SNS-expert at Berkeley University, that digital profiles are a sort of the digital bodies of users. I also found it interesting what Orkut-Founder Orkut Buyokkokten said about internet communities. They could help to revitalize democracy, because they coordinate interests and needs.
Or Moorstedt’s reference to Neal Stephenson’s science-fiction story “Snow Crash” (which I haven’t read) or to Salon.com-author Andrew Leonard. Also, he compared the City of MySpace to other mega-cities with their high streets and dark areas (and the security problems). Some others say Myspace is like rather a discotheque that is hip for a while… btw. Unfortunately, I haven’t found the article on Sueddeutsche.de to link, perhaps later today.
However, what comes to my mind is whether we will see a MySpace-like community in Germany, too? We have Open BC for business, but is there such a network fascinating teenagers as MySpace does? MySpace is often seen as the next MTV. Hence, will we see a German version of MySpace (or is it needed at all, since today’s teenagers just uses the original … most content is generated by users anyhow and is thus be localized by users themselves?) Will we have a VIVA-like German social network? Who will enter the space?
The second day of entertainment gathering was a dazzling experience and astounding look into the future. Actually, I am afraid that I am not able to convey that merely here.
The day was ranging from Craig Venter over Simpson-Inventor Matt Groening and Ice Age Creator-Chris Wedge of BlueSky (see pic below from his new film 'Robots') to Applied Minds Leonardo Danny Hillis to Frank Gehry, Jeffrey Katzenberg and a gorgious final performed by Quincy Jones. In particular, RSW's 9th session on Animation & Imaging was like a 9th symphony of mindsetting and illumination. My deepest respect to this grand design.

Just 24 hours and DLD06 is taking off. Our dear friend Ruti from Israel has just arrived and is helping us with her big experience to set up the location. We are all exhausted, but so thrilled to welcome our guests, friends, speakers, media to DLD. – the team is so fantastic, passionate and professional.

Late afternoon, the HONDA team calibrated our new humanoid friend ASIMO, it is astounding how it (you would like to say he) moves… I haven’t seen that in real so far.
Yesterday evening we got the program out of the printing machines, still smelling of ink, finished the guests lists (to be posted soon on www.dld06.com) which went up to more than 500. And, we would have loved to accept more registrations more, but space limitation is not allowing for.
Nicole Simon and Thomas Wahoff produced some great pre-conference podcasts with some of our speakers. Steffi and me did the last, and we felt so at ease and like a conversation with Nicole. Nicole, also thanks for launching the DLD06 frappr map. Please sign in!
Now, I am round-calling the other moderators to finalize the panels. Via our dear colleague Anne Urbauer, editor-in-chief of AMICA magazine, we got a late new speaker Emanuelle Della Valle of TOD’s. He will be speaking with Anne on the ‘What in the pipe?” panel how he brings this iconic style brand into the web.

During the week, we did a pre-DLD press talk in Munich and presented it the first time. And thanks to Christian Krug, MAX-Chief editor, and Andreas Mayer of Verlagsgruppe Milchstrasse we had also the chance to present DLD and the program to the Hamburg creative, media and blogging community. I had a several interesting talks afterwards, for instance what role communities such as myspace.com play for the music and entertainment industry. Something I would be happy to learn more about. (There was an article on Rupert Murdoch’s plans for myspace.com in the WSJ this week.).
Via Business Opportunity Weblog I found this statistic showing that we are about to surpass the 1 billion internet user threshold soon – whow. Stats from Internetworldstats. It took this (new) medium no more than 10 years to achieve this penetration.
The Les Blogs 2.0 conference on Dec. 5/6 in Paris is only six weeks away. Loic Le Moer of Sixapart is again drawing together digeratis and makers of the blogosphere such as Robert Scoble, Chief Blogging Officer of Microsoft, Technorati-Founder and CTO David Sifry, OM Malik and many others.
The programm will look into how blogging is affecting corporations and how traditional media and blogging interact. The second day will cover the hot issue ot RSS and Podcasting, closing with a look into the future…
Disclaiming that Hubert Burda Media is a partner – let me just draw your attention to this conference – Les Blogs 1.0 was a great event and the blogosphere has more than doubled since then. Last but not least, Loic & Geraldine are wonderful hosts.

Watching the short quite emotional spot-style movie, I thought its design ressembles the robots of the 2004 movie “I, Robot”. Will robots be the next big consumer product? I recently heard that Japan sees itself at the innovation edge, also because robots could help to tackle its aging society.
My dear colleague Uwe of Focus Magazine told me two days ago about this crisp idea. Alex Tew build a website where people can buy pixels. The receips fund his studies. Look, who are his donors… The site ist called “The Million Dollar Homepage” and runs through the blogosphere…
